Founded in 2001, the Metro Denver Sports Commission, or Denver Sports, is a privately funded 501c3 non-profit organization whose vision is to ELEVATE SPORT and ENERGIZE LIVES. With a mission of attracting, facilitating and supporting the economic and social vitality of the greater metro area, Denver Sports works to draw premier domestic and international sporting events to the Denver market.

OUR MISSION
Through our collaborative efforts around sporting events, the Metro Denver Sports Commission attracts, facilitates and supports
- Economic vitality by attracting major events that generate a significant economic impact on the Metro Denver area
- Social vitality by promoting youth access, participation and volunteerism in sport.
The 2008 Frozen Four and the 2007 NCAA West Regional for college hockey came to Denver because of the work and partnerships created by Denver Sports. 2009 featured the US Curling Olympic Trials, Sport Accord and The Churchill Cup Rugby Tournament; three important events in Denver’s desire to create an international sport footprint. In 2010 the famed football rivalry between the University of Colorado and Colorado State University returned to Denver for a ten year run known as the Cinch Jeans Rocky Mountain Showdown. This game returned to Denver because of the collaborative efforts of Denver Sports. In January of 2011 Denver Sports hosted the Denver Big Air World Cup Snowboarding competition. The events that Denver Sports has brought to the city have contributed in excess of 70 million dollars of economic impact and greatly enhance the image of Denver as a major global host city.
Upcoming events coming to Denver because of the efforts of Denver Sports include the 2012 NCAA Basketball Women’s Final Four and the 2014 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championships.
Denver Sports is not just about events, though; it’s also about community. To assist in fulfilling the social vitality portion of the organization’s mission, Denver Sports creates opportunities to bring sports to underserved youth in the greater Denver area. Through access and participation, the Metro Denver Sports Commission promotes the positive impact sports can have on youth.
Through its events and the work of its charities arm, Denver Sports is committed to making Denver a premier city in which to live, work and visit. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of local business and community leaders, Denver Sports is primarily funded by corporate and individual partners, government agencies, and economic development entities.
The work of Denver Sports would not be possible without the collaborative efforts of area businesses, educational institutions, civic organizations and professional sports teams, as well as the involvement and support of the greater Denver community.
