U.S. Curling sweeps into Denver

Denver, Colorado, has been selected as the host site for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling.

A final agreement is pending, but the U.S. Curling Association (USCA) Board of Directors voted on Saturday to accept a bid presented by the Metro Denver Sports Commission (MDSC) to host the weeklong competition Feb. 21-28, 2009, at the Broomfield Event Center, a 7,000-plus seat arena located between Denver and Boulder.

“Our goal going into this site selection process was to choose a site that will help us put on a great championship as well as a highly entertaining event,” said USCA Vice President of Championships James Pleasants. “We are very excited by the proposal put forth by Metro Denver Sports Commission as we believe it will help us to accomplish both of these goals and really raise the bar for curling events in the United States.”

Denver Gets the Nod - 2010 National Veterans Wheelchair Games

July 2010 the Mile High City will host one of the most strenuous and spirited athletic competitions in the world.  More than 500 disabled athletes from across the United States, Puerto Rico and Great Britain will arrive to compete in the 30th National Veterans Wheelchair Games.

The Games, presented each year by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), are open to all U.S. military veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition because of spinal cord injuries, certain neurological conditions, amputations or other mobility impairments.  The 2010 event will be hosted by the VA Medical Center in Denver and the Mountain States Chapter of PVA.

The theme for the 2010 Games – “Games with Heart, A Mile High” reflects the athletes’ enduring spirit and the mile high city.  “We are proud and excited to have been selected to host the 2010 games,” said Lynette Roff, Director of the Eastern Colorado Healthcare System.
