2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Championships Final Four

In 2012, Denver’s Pepsi Center and the Mountain West Conference are set to host the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships Final Four. The Pepsi Center seats approximately 19,155 people and serves as the home to the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. Centered around the idea, “put it in the hoop,” representing a mile (5280 ft.) radius around downtown Denver that all championship venues, events, hotels, conferences and celebrations will be held within. The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association conference will be held at the Denver Convention Center in conjunction with the Final Four. Rocky Mountain Showdown

2010 Cinch Jeans and Shirts Rocky Mountain Showdown

Colorado’s best football rivalry returns to Denver and INVESCO Field at Mile High.  The Cinch Jeans and Shirts Rocky Mountain Showdown kicks off the college football season and pits the Colorado State University Rams versus the University of Colorado Buffalos in a Labor Day weekend match up that kicks off at high noon on Saturday, Sept. 4.  The game will be played in Denver for the next 10 years. 2014 FIL Men's Lacrosse World Championships

From July 10-19, 2014 Denver will serve as the host site for the 2014 FIL Men's Lacrosse World Championships. The games are hosted by US Lacrosse with the help of Denver Sports and the Denver lacrosse community. As many as 38 countries as expected to compete at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. 2009/2010 Churchill Cup

International Rugby traveled to Denver in the summer of 2009 and 2010 where teams from around the world competed in the 2009 and 2010 Churchill Cup international rugby tournament. In 2009, three pool-play doubleheaders as well as the finals round were held in Glendale at Infinity Park with the England Saxons coming out victorious. The 2010 tournament brought another victory to the England Saxons with three pool-play doubleheaders at Infinity Park and the finals round in Harrison, New Jersey at Red Bull Arena.

2009 USA Boxing National Championships

Boxing’s Biggest Week came to the Denver Coliseum in June of 2009. Over 500 nations top amateur Olympic-style boxers competed for a National Championship title. Visit www.usaboxing.org for more event information.

 

2009 U.S. Curling National Championships

Denver served as the host site for the 2009 U.S. Curling National Championships, which also served as the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling. The Metro Denver Sports Commission hosted the weeklong competition Feb. 21-28, 2009, at the Broomfield Event Center, a 7,000-plus seat arena located between Denver and Boulder. Denver outbid Bismarck, N.D.; Fairbanks, Alaska; Milwaukee, and Rochester, N.Y.

 
 

SportAccord

In March of 2009, Denver hosted SportAccord, an annual international sports convention that brings over 1,400 of the top Olympic and amateur sport leaders in the world. Representatives from more than 100 International Sports Federations, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board members, sponsors, bidding and host cities, broadcasters and Games Organizing Committees came together in an exclusive and authoritative networking environment.

This was the first time this major international event was held in the Americas. Madrid, Lausanne, Berlin, Seoul, Beijing and Athens are all previous host cities. Denver also marked the first meeting of the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board in the United States, outside of an Olympic Games.

 

2009 National Association of Sports Commissions 
Sports Event Symposium

In April of 2009, the Metro Denver Sports Commission hosted the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Sports Event Symposium. Produced annually the NASC, the Sports Event Symposium is the sports event industry's leading networking conference. Founded in 1992, the NASC represents almost 400 organizations including convention and visitors bureaus, sports commissions, event owners and industry suppliers.
