Women’s Final Four Volunteers

The pinnacle of women’s basketball takes over Denver as the city plays host to the 2012 NCAA® Women’s Final Four® at the Pepsi Center on April 1 and 3, 2012. The week leading up to the championship games will be filled with exciting activities and we ask our region’s tremendous volunteers to help us stage this great event.

The Denver Local Organizing (DLOC) Committee estimates nearly 3,000 volunteer shifts will need to be filled with responsibilities including a wide range of tasks such as greeting incoming fans at the airport, helping with youth events, and transporting VIPs. The Denver Local Organizing Committee is seeking volunteers who will give an enthusiastic and warm welcome to guests visiting Denver, as well as contribute to the general atmosphere and excitement surrounding the Women’s Final Four.  All Women’s Final Four volunteers must by 18 years of age no later than Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Tourney Town

Tourney TownTM

Tourney Town will be Denver’s epicenter of all things Women’s Final Four. Housed at the Colorado Convention Center, Tourney Town will be open to the public and full of fan and community activities. With past attendance nearing 20,000, Tourney Town entry is FREE and is filled with entertainment, concerts, food, licensed merchandise, autograph sessions, basketball clinics, exhibits, games and interactive displays. Tourney Town also houses the Center Stage, an indoor stage featuring entertainment from local, regional and national talent.  The official Women’s Final Four Pep Rally takes place in Tourney Town where fans can cheer with the bands, mascots and spirit squads of the participating schools.

Backyard Coaches

Looking for a fast paced shift? You can be a Backyard Coach during Tourney Town’s three days of interactive fan fun. Assist with games and activities on basketball courts and fan activation areas. We are looking for active volunteers who can walk, run and shag basketballs. If you have a heart for kids and sports, this is the activity for you!

Hosts

Is a stationary shift more your speed? Then be a Tourney Town Host! Greet fans as they enter the heart and hub of Women’s Final Four fan-based activities- Tourney Town! Provide directional assistance and hand out maps and other flyers that pertain to activities going on in Tourney Town. Help with lines at activation areas and be the front line with fans for information and a pleasant experience.  This position requires standing, sitting and some walking. If you love to host a great party, this volunteer position is right for you!

 

 

WBCA Convention

Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Convention

The WBCA National Convention brings together over 3,000 college coaches to the Women’s Final Four for a week of education and networking. There are over 20 hours of on-court demonstrations, seminars and roundtables taught by the most successful coaches in women’s basketball.  We will have approximately 250 volunteer shifts to fill for this event. Please see the descriptions below of all the volunteer opportunities:

Banquet Aide

Under supervision of Director of Events.  Serve as ticket taker.  Assist with preparation of function (i.e. act as stand-in during rehearsals, place gifts and/or event programs at place settings, place signage).  Guide attendees to seats & monitor availability of seating as room fills.  Distribute promotional materials at end of function.  Assist with event wrap-up (i.e. removing signage, retrieving lost articles, packing remaining promotional items).  Must adhere to LOC dress code.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Exhibition Aide

Under supervision of Director of Membership, Exhibition & Convention Services.  Check credentials at the exhibit hall entrance to ensure that all guests are authorized.  Serve as liaison between exhibitors & Director of Membership.  Assist with events taking place in exhibit hall.  Perform other duties as assigned. (SOME MANUAL LABOR AND STANDING ARE REQUIRED)

Meeting Monitor

Under supervision of Director of Events; arrives before session is scheduled to start; utilizes the Event Function Worksheet to see that the breakout session begins and ends promptly.  Check badges at the door to ensure all attendees are registered for the convention. Cross checks to make sure that all noted equipment is in place and in working order.  Ensures that signage (directional, name tents, etc.) is in place.  Greets speaker(s), presider(s), and attendees.  Assists with requests.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Registration Aide

Under supervision of Director of Membership, Exhibition & Convention Services.  Greet convention registrants and answer general questions regarding convention schedule including location of meetings and events.  Responsible for checking identification, obtaining signatures and distributing convention credentials and other related convention materials.  Familiarity with a computer keyboard.  Light typing required to make name changes or to log in date and time as registrants pick up their credentials.  May also help maintain the publications table and career center usually located in the registration area.(SOME STANDING WILL BE REQUIRED)  The first 30 minutes will be a mandatory training session. Volunteers who are working registration must attend the training session.

Runner/Greeter

Under supervision of Director of Events.  Answers incoming calls in professional manner in the WBCA Public Office.  Accurately records and distributes messages to appropriate mailboxes.  Fax as necessary and deliver incoming faxes to appropriate mailboxes.  Make photocopies as assigned.  Learns master schedule in order to disseminate information.  Keeps abreast of any changes.  Receives packages.  Runs errands as necessary.  Serves as central base for communication.  Accompanies driver to airport, hotel and other points of pick up for convention guests, award winners, VIPs, etc.  May need to assist with handling baggage and hotel check-in.  Perform other duties as assigned. (GENERAL OFFICE SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE OF OFFICE EQUIPMENT NEEDED)  (SOME LIFTING REQUIRED)

Session Monitor

Assist with the Shootaround and checking badges at the door.

Signage Assistant

Under supervision of the Director of Events, assist with directing people as to where sessions are being held.

“So You Want To Be A Coach” Registration Assistant

This volunteer will assist with registration for the “So You Want To Be A Coach” program.

 

 

General Activity

General Activity Volunteers

Along with Tourney Town and the WBCA Convention we need many other general activity volunteers. This includes airport greeters, VIP party help, runners, and much more. Please see the descriptions below of all the volunteer opportunities:

6th Man Squad

Flexibility is a must for this volunteer position.  Volunteers are dispatched to various activities wherever and whenever extra volunteer help is needed.

Airport Greeters

Volunteers at the airport are the first to greet Women’s Final Four visitors upon their arrival in Denver.  First impressions are important and your job will be to welcome visitors, answer questions about the city and the Women’s Final Four, direct them to transportation and make sure they get on the right bus.  Please note that you will be required to be on your feet for most of your shift.

Autograph Session Assistants

Volunteer assignments include poster distribution, checking credentials at media corral, setting up signage and line control (secondary to arena security).  Volunteers working this shift cannot ask for or receive an autograph from the participants.

Control Center

Volunteers in the command center keep everything functioning for staff and key volunteers—they keep the coffee brewing, the doors open, supplies available and provide any assistance the staff might need.  Phone Bank volunteers answer the command center phone lines and distribute messages when necessary. They also help run the hotlines and help distribute the issue to the right department.

Hotel Welcome Desks

Volunteers man information tables in official NCAA and team hotel lobbies where they greet visitors, answer questions about Denver, and hand out Women’s Final Four information.

Salute Premiere

Volunteers will be arranging and handing out gifts and giveaways, and also ushering guests to seats.  Salute Program Assembly Volunteer will assist by assembling Salute Programs and placing them on chairs.

Transportation Courtesy Car Driver

Drivers will be needed throughout the week to shuttle NCAA VIP’s—these volunteers must be 25 years or older.

Transportation – Luggage Loader (Airport)

Luggage Loader – Load luggage and assist patrons onto the bus.

VIP Party Assistants

Volunteers will be on their feet for most of shift.

Volunteer Command Center

The Volunteer Command Center will be where most of our Women’s Final Four volunteers check-in for their shift and pick-up their uniforms if unable to attend orientation. Volunteers working in this command center will assist other volunteers with paperwork, uniforms and where to go.

Volunteer Orientation Assistants

Volunteer will assist with volunteer check in, distributions of volunteer credentials and uniforms, etc.

Youth Clinics

Members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association will interact with Denver youth by conducting basketball skill sessions at several universities and schools in the community.  They will also provide guidance in academic and personal achievement.  Volunteers will help with registration, t-shirt distribution and wherever else coordinators might need assistance with set-up and flow of the clinic.  If you enjoy working with kids, you will enjoy this activity.

Mile High Dribble

The Mile High Dribble will feature several thousand youth, ages 18 and under, dribbling their way through downtown Denver on Sunday, April 1.  The route will begin at Civic Center Park and conclude at the Colorado Convention Center and Tourney Town , where dribblers and their families will be welcomed free of charge.

Activity Tent Helper

Volunteer will assist children with table activities such as coloring sheets, bead bracelets, etc.

Basketball Distribution

Volunteer will assist in the distribution of 2,500 basketballs as Dribble participants fly by.

Finish Line Helper

Volunteer will help guide young dribblers not accompanied by an adult into a holding area where parents/guardians may find them.  Volunteer will also assist with any finish line clean-up tasks needed.

Registration & T-Shirt Distribution

Volunteer will check in pre-registered participants, register participants on site, and distribute t-shirts.

Route Wranglers

Volunteer will be positioned along dribble route to guide, monitor, assist, and cheer dribblers.

Set-Up Crew

Volunteer will help set up tables, chairs, water stations, bike rack, signs, banners, t-shirts, and supplies for the following Mile High Dribble activities: registration, t-shirt distribution, basketball distribution, and other activities.

Tear-Down and Clean-Up Crew

Volunteer will help take down tables, chairs, water stations, bike rack, signs, and banners.  Volunteers will also pack and load up all left over t-shirts and supplies.
